Regional Investment Manager of South and Central Asia
Position location: Flexible within India, with a preference for Mumbai.

Summary
WaterEquity is seeking a Regional Investment Manager for South and Central Asia who will work along with the Regional Director in all aspects of water and sanitation investment in the region. These investments consist of lending to financial institutions that on-lend to households, SMEs, and utilities for water and sanitation. The Regional Investment Manager will assist in portfolio management along with deal sourcing, screening, negotiations, due diligence, and transaction closing. The Regional Investment Manager reports directly to the Director, Financial Institutions Investments and is part of the investment management team.
The ideal candidate will be able to quickly take over relationships with existing clients, monitor portfolio risks, and execute investments. The candidate will contribute to the formulation and execution of long-term investment strategies for the countries under management.
Job Responsibilities
Portfolio management
- Monitor financial and operational health of investments. Includes reviewing financial spreadsheets, analyzing data and financial statements, identifying trends in data, applying analytical skills to develop reasoned credit conclusions, and engaging with investees directly for follow-up clarification and information.
- Monitor country and market risks. Identify trends, and regulatory and industry developments impacting the financial institution sector throughout the South and Central Asia region.
- Manage relationships with Investees. Maintain good communications with investees for risk monitoring and support business development efforts such as follow-on investments, technical advisory service delivery, etc.
- Support other WaterEquity departments with local compliance and operational issues
Support transactions
- Business development and candidate screening
- Financial Due diligence, ESG, and impact analysis
- Preparation of collaterals used for the presentation of opportunities to the investment committee
Strategy, Coordination & Representation
- Coordination with a sister organization, Water.org, to deliver WSS technical assistance
- Identify opportunities for the expansion of markets and products within the region
Skills and Qualifications
The following qualifications are necessary:
- Master’s degree in a relevant field, or equivalent professional experience. Accounting background with a strong focus on financial analysis (e.g., through coursework, CFA or equivalent, or relevant work experience)
- 4-7 years of experience in finance/banking/microfinance/impact investment in emerging markets within an investment bank, credit rating agency, private debt, or private equity
- Experience with due diligence & analysis of investment opportunities in financial institutions
- Experience with SME lending and/or non-income generating microloan products, particularly water & sanitation or housing microloans
- Demonstrated ability to design, launch, and scale new projects and initiatives
- Willingness to regularly travel up to 20% of the time
- An effective team player with the ability to work alone and partner with people of all levels across multiple global locations

Compensation and Benefits
Overall compensation will be commensurate with education and experience and structured to reflect a competitive package for a full-time senior-level team member. No relocation benefits or visa sponsorship will be offered.
